Legal & General Group Plc is a financial services provider best known for its life insurance services and was one of the pioneers behind low-cost index tracker funds.

The company operates out of three primary divisions:

  • Legal & General Retirement Institutional is a global pension risk transfer provider.
  • Legal & General Capital is the investment arm of the business that invests in a wide range of financial securities surrounding real estate, renewable energy, and SME financing solutions.

The group also provides additional consumer-facing life insurance solutions, and retail retirement instruments such as annuities, drawdown products, and lifetime mortgage loans.

  • Frequently Asked Questions

Demand for Legal & General’s services have historically remained strong. But given the various niches it operates in, overall growth hasn’t been particularly impressive, making LGEN stock more popular amongst income investors.

However, it’s worth being aware that the financial services sector is highly regulated. Any intentional or accidental breach of regulations can result in significant financial penalties, potentially destabilising the LGEN share price.

Yes. Legal & General shares pay a cash dividend at an average 52% payout ratio. The stock has one year of consecutive dividend growth.

Barratt Development shares pay out a dividend twice a year, in April and August.
